Hi, I’m Brendan. I do…a bunch of things, mostly writing-related, sometimes seasonal, often culinary (and best when I combine them). This website is a place where I’ve collected some of my works and announce upcoming shows, panels, screenings, etc.

In both my teaching and personal work, I have a deep fascination with transmedial storytelling and simultaneous multiliteracy, meaning I’m always working in different styles, genres, and mediums. I talk about books and games and stuff over on Tiktok @mrbrendansbooksheklf (this usually involves costumes, sometimes baking). As a poet, my work has appeared in Freezeray Poetry, Glass Poets Resist, Headway Quarterly, and I helped launch Capturing Fire Press with my chapbook, A Puzzle Is Still Made of Pieces. I perform whenever I can, and I curate the ongoing Queer Nerd Poetics reading series.

I’ve presented work in 48-Hour Film Festivals, 24-Hour Playfests, poetry marathons, research lab happy hours, academic conferences, San Diego and New York Comic Cons, the stages of gay bars, and anywhere else I can connect with an audience.

As an English teacher, I work with recently-arrived immigrant students at a public school in Brooklyn, NY. I collaboratively developed a curriculum that uses comics, poetry, picture books, videos, articles, and short stories to help develop language and literacy. If you visit my classroom, you’ll hear a lot of language and see plenty of student work on the shelves.

When I’m not teaching or writing, I’m is usually playing games with my boyfriend, trying pumpkin-based recipes, cooking dinner, or thinking about what to cook for dinner.
